Dear Members:

Your donation is needed to secure an artifact for the Marshfield Historical Society Museum from a local auction house.  Let me tell you about it:

18th c. Queen Anne Drop Leaf Table

The auctioneer writes: New England, mahogany, early varnish finish, rounded leaves, carved cabriole swing legs ending in pad feet, overall good condition, descended from Sara Damon Rogers, the consignor’s grandmother of North Marshfield, MA. Dimensions 27″ h, 12″ top, 14 1/2″ leaf.   Auction estimate: $1,000+.

MHS Curator Dottie Melcher writes: Sara Damon Rogers was related to at least two venerable Marshfield families, the Damons and the Rogers.  This table would be a wonderful addition to our museum furniture at the Marcia Thomas House.

The Board of the Marshfield Historical Society has established an Acquisitions Fund to quickly act on opportunities like this one.  We are asking our members and friends to build this fund to at least $2,000.  Donors will be recognized as Collection Benefactors at various levels of giving.

If you are willing to donate $100 or more to help fund acquisitions like this one, please REPLY.  You can send your check made out to “Marshfield Historical Society – Acquisitions Fund” to PO Box 1244, Marshfield, MA 02050.  Upon receipt of your check, you will be sent a formal receipt from the Society’s President to be used for tax purposes.
