Archive and Research

We have a State-of-the-art Archival Facility:

The Marshfield Historical Society is also a historical reference facility available to the public for local history research purposes including the history of a residence, a family name, and important local events (e,g. the Great Fire).  We have over 3500 items identified and cataloged in a searchable digital database using the PastPerfect software.  These items are stored in acid-free materials in a climate-controlled area located in the basement of the Marcia Thomas House at 65 Webster Street controlled for temperature, humidity, and UV rays. This 10 plus year-old facility was built using funds from Marshfield’s Community Preservation Act CPA fund.

Our Curator, Dottie Melcher, is available by appointment to assist in the research of our collection. The first half-hour of her assistance is free.   For additional research there is a charge of $25.00 per hour. The best way to contact her is by e-mail, dottie.melcher@verizon.net .
