Mission of the MHS

We are the oldest local history organization in Marshfield, founded in 1913, making the Society 108 years old in 2021.

Our Mission:

  • To Preserve historic buildings.  This includes the 1835 Marcia Thomas House, the 1857 Old Winslow Schoolhouse and the Blacksmith’s Shop, each located in Marshfield’s Historic Triangle near Webster and Careswell Streets.
  • To Collect, display and preserve artifacts and photographs relative to the Town of Marshfield and its surroundings.  We manage a collection of more than 4,000 artifacts in a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled environment with digital catalog access.
  • To Educate and inform the public about the history of Marshfield.
