Subject: Two Treats from the Marshfield Historical Society

  1. Reading The Declaration of Independence – Did you Miss it?

By now you may have heard about the Marshfield Historical Society Board of Directors, some former Board members, two Town of Marshfield Selectmen, and the Town Administrator have each made videos of a portion of the Declaration of Independence.  Jonathan Grabowski head of the Marshfield Community TV then edited and spliced these 17 separate videos together to produce a 15-minute video of our reading of one of the most important national documents, The Declaration of Independence

It was broadcast on Marshfield’s Community TV four times on the Fourth of July Weekend.  If you read the Declaration once back in school, or if you are a history buff and have studied each line of  it, this is your opportunity to hear it, to understand it, and to applaud it once again

Do not pass this up.  We have a lot to be proud of.  And admittedly, we as a country also have a long way to go.

  1. The Paleobotany of Plymouth – our first Virtual Pro-Am

Anya Gruber was the speaker at our first virtual Marshfield Historical Society Pro-Am about an archeology dig at Burial Hill, Plymouth, and other South Shore locations.  She is an expert on Colonial era paleobotany and made a video of her talk about the plant remains (evidenced by plant pollen) that was recovered from the digs over the past summers.  When we released the video a month ago, we asked for emailed questions from the virtual audience.

Well Anya has now sent us another great video of her answering questions like:

What is pollen, and what does it look like?

What oddities did you find at Burial Hill?

Was there evidence of the Three Sisters in Native American gardens?

Did the people of the colonial past have balanced diets?

Put your laptop, iPad, or smart phone in a place that you can see its screen, and click on the following link to enjoy Anya Gruber’s Pro-Am original 30-minute video presentation:
